Nepean River pump and pipeline proposed

A proposal to construct a water supply pumping station and pipeline from the Nepean River to the Penrith Lakes, NSW, is now on exhibition for community feedback.

The NSW Department of Planning and Environment is seeking views on the construction plans, including:

• Construction and operation of a pumping station located approximately 600 metres downstream of the Penrith Weir on the eastern embankment of the Nepean River;
• Construction and operation of a water supply pipeline extending from the Nepean River, via the pump station, to a discharge point within the Penrith Lakes Scheme; and
• Provision of ancillary infrastructure, such as intake/discharge pipes and construction of supporting structures.

A spokesperson for the Department of Planning and Environment said input from the local community will be considered as part of assessing the project.

“The proposal will allow PLDC to direct water from the Nepean River into the Penrith Lakes Scheme, filling the lakes for the first time and secure the lakes’ water supply in the future,” the spokesperson said.

“I encourage everyone to take a look and have their say.”
