Record gas deliveries via DBNGP

Record deliveries have been made via the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline (DBNGP) in WA as a result of cold temperatures driving increased gas demand.

On July 9, 807 terrajoules (TJ) of gas was delivered to customers in Perth and the South West, representing the largest throughput figure since the pipeline was commissioned nearly 30 years ago.

The new record eclipsed the previous highest throughput of 793 TJ set on the July 7, 2011.

High deliveries are anticipated to continue into the coming week and are being driven by cold weather conditions, the unavailability of a coal fired power station, and low wind farm power generation.

“We’re really pleased the DBNGP was able to deliver this record full-haul throughput whilst still having ample capacity to go beyond this and reach our full design capacity design of 845 TJ/day if required,” DBP CEO Stuart Johnston said.

“The current throughput demand is very significant demonstrates the benefits of our continued investment in the pipeline’s expansion since 2004. This week we eclipsed the previous throughput record by 14 TJ and still have ample capacity to deliver more gas should our customers demand it.”

The DBNGP is WA’s key gas transmission pipeline stretching almost 1600 kilometres and linking the gas fields located in the Carnarvon Basin off the Pilbara coast with population centres and industry in the south-west of the state.
