PERMAcast has been awarded a multi-million dollar precast package for the ISBL and OSBL Concrete and Civil Works for the Wheatstone project. PERMAcast won the tender to supply precast trench units to Laing O’Rourke after a long and consultative tender process.

The trench units were initially designed to be cast in-situ, however, PERMAcast’s in house precast engineers were able to engineer efficiencies in manufacturing methodologies which meant that the alternative precast solution provided ultimate cost benefits for the project.

permacastA further benefit of the precast solution is that the trenches will be manufactured off site in PERMAcast’s ISO 9001 Quality Controlled factory environment. This is particularly important when considering that there are approximately 1000 uniquely individual trench units to be cast. With no two units being the same and each unit weighing between 20 to 24 tonne (and to be shipped to a remote Pilbara location) it was critical that an experienced competent engineering team with well organised business management systems was engaged.

Manufacture of 12 custom designed and purpose built steel moulds is already complete and work is continuing towards an initial cast date late in January 2015. Manufacture of products will continue for eight months with an estimated 7,500 cubic meters of concrete being poured during that time.
