New water main in Byford

Construction work a new $1.6 million water main on Abernethy Road, Byford in Western Australia, will begin in early January to coincide with a road widening project in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale.

The 1.5km water main will be installed along the road reserve of Abernethy Road, starting at Briggs Road and finishing at Soldiers Road.

Water Corporation Assets Delivery General Manager, Nathan Hardwick, said smart planning has seen the work on the water main brought forward so it could occur at the same time as a Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale’s road widening project.

“As the work will be carried out at the same time as the Shire, the community and road users are only impacted the once,” Mr Hardwick said.

“This new water main will help support population growth in the fast growing area of the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale.

“I thank the Byford community for their patience while this important water infrastructure is being built.”

The new distribution main will supply drinking water from both Canning and Wungong Dams in the Perth hills. The project is expected to be completed by the end of February 2019.

Water Corporation will invest a total of $552 million in 2018-19 on water, wastewater and drainage projects to meet the growing needs of the metropolitan area.
