The Queensland Government has announced that a $1.8 million pump station upgrade is one of nine Gladstone projects funded under the $200 million COVID Works for Queensland program.

Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, said, “We announced the $200 million COVID Works for Queensland Program to create thousands of jobs across the state and deliver vital community infrastructure as part of our $6 billion economic recovery strategy Unite and Recover for Queensland Jobs.

“Gladstone’s allocation of $5.2 million will go towards nine projects in the region, which the Gladstone Regional Council expects will create or support 60 jobs.”

Member for Gladstone, Glenn Butcher, said the projects were part of Queensland’s road to economic recovery and would make a difference to the region.

“While there’s no doubt our people are resilient, I know these projects, and the jobs they create, will be extremely welcome during this tough time,” Mr Butcher said.

Queensland Local Government Minister, Stirling Hinchliffe, said the positive impacts would be felt almost immediately.

“This program is specifically designed to help councils get their communities back on their feet as quickly as possible and minimise any long-term effects of the pandemic,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“Across the state, every council area is benefitting from the COVID Works for Queensland program.

“In total, 520 projects are being funded, which the councils tell us will support or create more than 4,600 jobs.

“It’s a fantastic outcome and will go a long way to helping Queensland unite and recover.

“This initiative builds on the wonderfully successful $600 million Works for Queensland program that has already created or supported more than 19,000 jobs throughout regional Queensland.”

Gladstone Mayor, Matt Burnett, said the council was looking forward to delivering the projects for the community.

“These projects will make a real difference in helping the community get through this period by improving liveability as well as creating jobs for local families,” Mr Burnett said.

“The Works for Queensland program sees money go directly to councils and in my opinion it’s the greatest program I’ve seen delivered by any government.”

  • $1.8 million pump station SPS A06 upgrade
