A new partnership between TasWater and engineering firm GHD promises a fundamental change to how water infrastructure is delivered across the state.
The agreement will see a shift from “fragmented” short-term contracts to long-term partnerships and provide the basis for a large program of water and sewerage upgrades across Tasmania.
The new model has been design to provide greater “certainty, efficiency and value” for the community.
“TasWater is investing billions of dollars in essential water and sewerage infrastructure over the coming years,” TasWater general manager – project delivery Tony Willmott said.
“To deliver this responsibly, we need trusted partners who can provide not just technical expertise, but also a shared commitment to our communities.
“Our partnership with GHD will help us plan and design the right projects, at the right time, with the best value for customers. Together, we’re building a stronger, smarter and more sustainable water future for Tasmania.”
GHD will support an engineering, planning and design framework complete with integrated planning and design across major projects, technology upgrades and more.
Tassie-focused engineering consultancies JMG, IPD, pitt&sherry and Ganden will add their local expertise to the partnership, bolstering GHD’s 80-plus years of experience in the state.
TasWater’s Future Delivery Model is based on seven frameworks across engineering and design, major projects, medium projects, renewals, plant refurbishments, SCADA and operational technology upgrades and metering.
This forms part of a $2 billion commitment from TasWater to delivering “exceptional” water and sewerage services across Tasmania over the next five years.
