FELUWA is known for developing some of the industry’s longest-standing pumps, particularly in harsh mining environments.
FELUWA pumps continue to operate nearly 30 years after being installed at Glencore’s Murrin Murrin nickel-cobalt mine in Western Australia, while a FELUWA pump installed in the 1990s was still going strong at BHP Nickel West’s Kwinana nickel refinery until its shutdown in July 2024.
At a bauxite processing plant in Greece operated by Metlen Energy & Metals, three FELUWA hose-diaphragm piston pumps installed in the 1990s are still in operation today – reliably conveying abrasive bauxite slurry.
Day after day, the pumps handle a demanding medium: abrasive, aggressive and high in solids.
The reason for this long service life lies in the design of the FELUWA MULTISAFE pump, which is built for exactly these types of slurry applications, boasting:
- Reduced number of wear parts for high availability
- Exceptional wear resistance of the few wetted components
- Adaptability to demanding chemical environments
- A wide range of materials for hose diaphragms and valves
- Hermetic separation between drive end and pumped medium
This has resulted in decades of reliable slurry transfer and minimal downtime in a demanding mineral processing environment. Sometimes the best proof of engineering is not a specification sheet, it’s 30 years of operation.
