Sydney Water is decommissioning Balmain Wastewater Pumping Station and building a replacement. Construction will start in mid 2013.
The wastewater pumping station, on the corner of Buchanan and Reynolds Streets in Balmain, was built more than 100 years ago. It is in poor condition and needs to be replaced.
The new wastewater pumping station will be built nearby on Sydney Ports Corporation land at the end of Booth Street. It involves building:
- the new pumping station
- a gravity pipe to divert wastewater from the existing pumping station at Robert Street parkland to the new site in Booth Street
- a pressure pipe from the new wastewater pumping station in Booth Street to a maintenance hole at the intersection of Palmer and Little Stephen Streets.
