Bodalla Sewerage Scheme receives funding

The NSW Government will provide $713,090 in funding for the construction of a new sewage treatment plant as part of the Bodalla Sewerage Scheme in the Eurobodalla Shire.

Member for Bega, Andrew Constance, said the funding will allow Eurobodalla Shire Council to commence the Bodalla Sewerage Scheme for the communities of Bodalla and Potato Point.

“We are getting on with the job of getting our local communities hooked to modern wastewater facility that will serve our growing needs.

“The existing on-site sewerage systems are not reliable and do not perform well, particularly during rainy periods,” Mr Constance said.

“This new sewerage scheme will provide a modern sewerage system to ensure a reliable sewerage service for the residents of Bodalla and Potato Point, protect public health and achieve better environmental outcomes, all at the same time.”

Mr Constance said the funding announcement was in addition to $1.2 million provided under the Aboriginal Communities Development Program.

The NSW Government has also provided $3.22 million under the Restart NSW – Regional Water and Wastewater Backlog Program for the Potato Point Sewerage Scheme.  

Eurobodalla Mayor, Liz Innes, welcomed the news, saying the funding will provide ongoing benefits for the Bodalla and Potato Point communities.

“We’ve already completed the preparatory work for this exciting project and we’re looking forward to getting onsite works for the new sewerage treatment plant underway next month,” Mayor Innes said.
