North East Water has credited the community for inspiring the design of a new pump station in Mount Beauty, Victoria.
This forms part of a new raw water offtake providing secure drinking water supply for the town and surrounding communities, with existing infrastructure, dating back to the 1970s, reaching the end of its service life.
The final design follows findings from a community reference group and survey carried out in 2024.
“The revised design moves the pump building further away from the river to the pondage side of Embankment Drive and importantly, does not include a weir across the river,” North East Water general manager – planning and infrastructure Guy Wilson-Browne said.
“Residents are now invited to help shape the look and feel of the new pump station, with two external design options now available for community feedback.”
One design option draws inspiration from Mt Bogong, with the other reflecting the Kiewa River.
“Once we’ve received this feedback, our project design team will finalise the plans and share the updated designs with the community,” Wilson-Browne said.
With engineering works to be tendered for in the coming months, construction on the new pump station is set to commence in April 2026, with the new offtake to be ready for use by summer 2027–28.
