A large global company has recently celebrated Pump Appreciation Day, an initiative aimed to celebrate and raise awareness of the vital functions played by pumps and the people who work with them.

On April 8, Goulds Pumps, PRO Services and Bornemann brands (owned by New York based manufacturer, ITT) observed the third-annual Pump Appreciation Day.

Notable Pump Appreciation Day activities around the world include public recognition for Heart of Industry and Pulse of Industry Award recipients. Eighteen organizations were presented the Heart of Industry Award, which recognizes companies or plants whose operational excellence and use of pump technology enhance plant processing, customer relationships and our way of life. Thirteen people were named to the Pulse of Industry Honor Roll, an individual recognition program to commend pump professionals for their exceptional work in pump operations, maintenance or process optimization.

“Pump Appreciation Day is a global acknowledgment of the essential role pumps have in the world’s industrial infrastructure,” said Robert J. Pagano Jr., president of ITT’s Industrial Process business. “We’re pleased to honor the men, women and organizations that play a part in providing our modern world nearly every product we use daily.”

As part of the worldwide celebration of industrial pumps, the event also promotes focus on the most important pump—the human heart. One outcome of the event will be the sponsorship of four international cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training sessions in 2014 through the Emergency Cardiac Care (ECC) organization, supported by the American Heart Association and its global partners. The sessions will deliver hands-only CPR instruction at company, distributor and customer locations, as well as involve the communities in which they’re located.

Heart Walks and similar fund-raising efforts are also planned for 2014 at business locations around the world. Employees will participate in the communities where they live and work, and monies raised will benefit the ECC.

“We’re excited to support the ECC Program, and to connect our employees, customers and distributors with the training resources they need to be prepared in life-threatening situations,” Pagano said. “These efforts really give ‘the Heart of Industry’ its meaning.”

In addition to Pump Appreciation Day events and award programs, an online World of Pumps Quiz (www.worldofpumpsquiz.com), which tests participants’ knowledge of the pump industry and its products, has attracted more than 9,200 unique visitors from 154 countries in the five months leading up to Pump Appreciation Day.
