Gladstone Regional Council (QLD) is seeking community feedback regarding a proposed upgrade of its sewage pump station at Cemetery Road, Gladstone.

Gladstone Regional Council is proposing to upgrade the existing sewage pump station by installing a 1ML concrete tank to increase storage capacity during emergencies.

Council’s engineering services portfolio spokesperson councillor, Rick Hansen, said, the upgrade was necessary to ensure the facility could cope with future emergency storage requirements.

“As part of the works being conducted by Council to improve the performance and efficiency of its sewer network, council is increasing its emergency storage capability in order to reduce possible environmental impacts,” Mr Hansen said.

The project will require the council to rezone and acquire more than 3000m2 of State Government park reserve near the pump station which is located immediately west of Gladstone Cemetery.

Mr Hansen said that “In keeping with its requirements to undertake such measures, council is consulting with stakeholders and the general public in a community consultation process.”

The community consultation period opens on 23 November and Gladstone Region residents and other interested parties have until 7 December 2015  to comment on the proposal.
