Compressors are used to impart pressure increases to gas by reducing its volume. Thus they can be employed to pump gases through a system. Compressors are used extensively throughout HVAC applications to circulate refrigerant. Some of the other processes in which compressors frequently play important roles include chemical and pharmaceutical applications, food and beverage applications, mining and mineral processing applications, pulp and paper applications, and oil and gas applications, including LNG production.
