Pump Industry Capability Guide

Product : Positive displacement pumps

Positive displacement pumps are one of the two main pump categories. These pumps impart energy to the fluid they are pumping through the application of force to moveable boundaries of enclosed fluid containing boundaries, causing a direct increase in pressure. Positive displacement pumps can be categorised further into rotary positive displacement pumps, which move fluid using a rotary mechanism that creates a vacuum that draws in the fluid, and reciprocating positive displacement pumps, which use oscillating pistons, plungers, or membranes (diaphragms) to move fluid with valves restricting the direction of fluid motion. Positive displacement pumps are used across a breadth of different applications and industries and include diaphragm pumps, progressive cavity pumps, rotary gear pumps, peristaltic pumps and hydraulic pumps.
