Emerson Process Management has opened a new research and development facility within the Asia Flow Technology Center in Nanjing, China. This new facility will focus on developing flow metering and measurement technologies that will help process manufacturers tackle their toughest engineering challenges. With the completion of the new R&D facility, Emerson has made a total investment of more than US $70 million in the Asia Flow Technology Center in Nanjing since 2009 to strengthen the company’s overall presence in China and Asia Pacific.

Research and development capabilities in the new facility include sensor and electronics design, multi-fluid application testing, environmental testing and analysis, as well as modeling capabilities for Micro Motion® Coriolis flow and density meters and Rosemount® vortex and magnetic flow meters.  These capabilities expand the scope of the Asia Flow Technology Center, which already operates as the Asian regional production, distribution and ISO17025 accredited calibration lab for Emerson’s leading flow metering and measurement technologies.

“Emerson is committed to understanding and supporting local customer requirements,” said Neal Ingram, president, Emerson Process Management, precision flow measurement. “This expansion allows our design engineers to share the same facility with marketing, manufacturing and supply chain resources. This combination of talent in a single location substantially accelerates our ability to meet the demands of our customers in Asia.”

The engineering and development department in Nanjing has made significant achievements in the past three years, resulting in 32 patents in China and four global invention patent provisions. The Asia Flow Technology Center has also launched new products including a Chinese display transmitter for Micro Motion Coriolis flow meters and the Rosemount 8750W magnetic flow meter which is designed primarily for utility applications.

Products designed and developed at this facility will be used to serve customers in the oil and gas, refining, petrochemicals, marine, life sciences, food, beverage, metals, mining, and pulp and paper industries. The Asia Flow Technology Center is part of Emerson’s global investment in flow measurement technology facilities and services and adds to the existing flow manufacturing and service network that includes facilities in the U.S., Brazil, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, the UAE, Japan, Singapore and Australia.
