A contractor for a major shopping centre on the Gold Coast was having problems with recently installed submersible sewage pumps in the car park and contacted Hydro Innovations to find a solution.
The submersible pumps were being overwhelmed by solids, including sanitary napkins, parts of clothing and paper towel, that made their way into the sewer wet well. The pumps were failing on a regular basis and the contractor was keen to find a solution for the client.
Hydro Innovations was quick to recommend Gorman-Rupp’s new Eradicator system, which is fitted into their Super T Series self-priming centrifugal pumps. The pumps are surface mounted, so the contractor needed to have the room to mount them.
The contractor was keen and soon established that there was enough room to fit the pumps, and all the hydraulic and electrical calculations were done. Gorman-Rupp’s T3C60SC-B pumps were selected. They are capable of handling a 63mm spherical solid, but more importantly, are fitted with a new style of cover plate and new style of wear plate, which are all part of the eradicator solids management system. The system is designed to handle high loads of stringy materials that get into wastewater systems.
Gorman-Rupp’s Super T Series Pumps are capable of operating on suction lifts up to 7.6m, and being surface mounted means operators are able to gain quick access to them for all maintenance tasks without opening wet well lids and exposing operators to falls or confined spaces.
Pumps were duly ordered and supplied. The contractor has been pleased with the way the pumps have coped with the heavy loads of foreign materials that were choking the previous pumps, and is glad they made the switch from submersible pumps to Gorman-Rupp.
