The New South Wales Government is giving the state’s Mid North Coast a $35 million funding boost to address the backlog of sewage and water projects across the region.
Almost $6 million dollars has been allocated to construct sewerage and wastewater treatment works at Telegraph Point, Long Flat and Comboyne.
Member for Oxley Melinda Pavey and Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams welcomed the project funding to the three regions.
“This funding will help transition the existing but aged waste-disposal systems over to best-practise and latest technology sewerage schemes,” Mrs Pavey said.
“Community growth over time has outstripped the capacity of the existing systems, so these large-scale infrastructure projects will be an enormous benefit to the districts into the future,” Mrs Williams said.
The funding will go towards three projects:
- $2.5 million in funding to upgrade the Comboyne sewerage system. This will include the construction of a traditional gravity system, with a sewer junction made available to each property within the village zoned areas. Sewage will then be directed to a local treatment plant.
- $1.17 million in funding to upgrade the Long Flat Sewerage Scheme. This will include the construction of a conventional gravity system and the current sewage treatment plant relocated to an alternate site, providing potential for effluent reuse. This aims to provide the village with the infrastructure it needs to improve its current sewage management practices.
- $2.32 million in funding to upgrade Telegraph Point Sewerage Scheme. The project will utilise a pressure sewer system due to flood prone areas, the high incidence of rock in the northern area and the distance between the residential areas.
These funding programs are in addition to an allocation of $6.63 million in funding to provide a reticulated sewerage system at Stuarts Point, in the Kempsey Shire.
