Five packages have been awarded for the exploratory works phase of the Borumba Pumped Hydro Project.
The packages, totalling $55 million, were awarded between May and September 2024. The works collections will help prepare the proposed project site for the commencement of exploratory works, subject to regulatory approvals. Queensland Hydro is seeking federal approvals for exploratory works under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
The five packages awarded are:
- Access roads designer – GHD Group (awarded May 2024)
- Temporary bridge supply – Mabey Hire (awarded July 2024)
- Establishment of survey control – Woolpert Australia (awarded September 2024)
- Owner’s technical assurance (drilling/underground) – Systra ANZ (awarded September 2024)
- Owner’s technical assurance (geotechnical/surface) – WSP Australia (awarded September 2024)
Awarding these packages means that the Borumba Project will benefit from the world-class expertise of Australia’s leading construction, engineering, advisory and technical experts.
Queensland Hydro will undertake extensive surface and underground geotechnical works during the exploratory works phase to better understand the project site. These packages will contribute to the safe and efficient delivery of those works by providing access, quality assurance, and surveying services.
