At drinktec 2025, GEA unveiled its latest innovation in beverage filling: a modular, service-friendly system designed to deliver efficiency, uptime, and adaptability in high-performance beverage production.
The filler was shown in full scale as one of GEA’s key exhibits, compatible with the company’s aseptic platforms (ABF, EcoSpin, Whitebloc, Unibloc Flex). It supports still and carbonated beverages, dairy-based recipes, and sensitive formulations. Central to the design is GEA’s Kinetic Edge Design, which improves accessibility and cleanability, reducing downtime and supporting long-term scalability.
Flexibility for diverse products
With beverage producers facing broader SKU ranges and shorter turnaround times, the modular filler demonstrated its ability to adapt to multiple bottle formats, container types (PET, aluminium, glass), and closure systems. Depending on configuration, it can achieve up to 60,000 bottles per hour.
A new gripper mechanism prevented bottle rotation during capping and allowed automatic format changeovers without tools or part swaps. This resulted in faster changeovers, lower risk of operator error, and reduced resource use.
Maintenance and hygiene redefined
The Kinetic Edge frame provided wide access zones and fewer removable panels, simplifying inspection and service. Quick-lock access doors enabled faster entry to the aseptic chamber.
Product-contact surfaces were redesigned with steeper slopes and smoother finishes, and a sloped isolator ceiling ensured droplets could not accumulate above the bottle path. These hygienic improvements increased cleaning speed and safety for both low- and high-acid products.
Digital intelligence on the line
Visitors saw the integration of a 24-inch HMI with AI-assisted alarm diagnostics, developed from real-world data. The system helped operators identify likely causes and suggested solutions. A high-mounted Digital Board displayed colour-coded alerts and performance metrics, visible from up to 20 metres away.
Luigi Casappa, R&D Project Manager at GEA, said the enhancements came from customer feedback. “The new HMI, Digital Board and mechanical layout are based on solving everyday pain points in a way that improves both line performance and confidence.”
Donato De Dominicis, Managing Director of GEA’s Aseptic Filling & Packaging unit, said the new technology marked a milestone. “The AI and machine learning module represents a key step in our product digitalisation journey. By learning from operator actions and cross-fleet data, the system provides statistically backed suggestions that support customers in their daily operation.”
The exhibit demonstrated how the filler combines modular flexibility, serviceability, hygienic upgrades, and digital intelligence to meet the demands of modern beverage production.
