Nearly 90,000 heat pump systems have been installed under Solar Victoria’s rebate scheme since 2018, and the heat pump boom is only just beginning.

An additional 27,000 hot water rebates on offer for the 2026–27 financial year, as the Victorian Government encourages households to choose sustainable solutions in the home.

By combining a Solar Homes rebate with a Victorian Energy Upgrades discount, up to $2030 can be saved for Victorians who install a locally made, energy‑efficient hot water system. This contributes to around $400 of savings per year by leaving gas hot water systems behind.

This is part of more than 500,000 rebates claimed under Solar Victoria’s rebate scheme, 353,100 of which relate to rooftop solar systems and 21,400 of which relate to home batteries.

The Victorian Government believes this has led to more than $1 billion in savings for households, with Solar Victoria providing solar rebates of up to $1400 for eligible Victorian households and rebates of up to $2800 for eligible apartments. This equates to up to $1000 in annual savings on power bills.

The Solar Homes program is projected to deliver over $1.48 billion in savings by 2028, contributing to a boost in renewable energy penetration in Victoria. In 2025, renewables accounted for 44.6 per cent of the state’s electricity generation – exceeding the 40 per cent target.

Melbourne led the way with 334,918 Solar Victoria rebates redeemed, followed by Gippsland with 26,429 rebates, Geelong with 20,469 rebates, Bendigo with 11,210 rebates and Ballarat with 8745 rebates.
