Techtop Australia has launched its new MPX motor range, bringing higher efficiency and increased smarts to modern pump systems.

In today’s pumping applications, where energy efficiency, uptime and ease of maintenance are critical, selecting the right motor is more important than ever.

The new MPX motor range has been developed to meet these demands head-on, combining high performance with practical design features that simplify installation, operation and long-term maintenance.

At the core of Techtop Australia’s MPX range is its IE4 ‘Premium Efficiency’ classification, representing the leading edge of efficiency standards, reducing electrical losses and operating costs compared to lower efficiency classes.

In continuous-duty pumping environments, where motors often run for 18–24 hours straight, the efficiency improvements achieved by deploying an MPX motor can translate into significant savings over the life of the equipment. Lower energy consumption also supports improved sustainability outcomes, helping operators limit their carbon footprint.

“Beyond efficiency, the MPX range has been engineered with a strong focus on practical installation and serviceability,” Techtop Australia motor product manager Keiron Cook told Pump Industry.

“A key feature is the oversized terminal box, providing generous space for cable termination. This simplifies wiring, reduces installation time and helps ensure reliable electrical connections, particularly in applications where larger cables or more complex terminations are required.”

This is complemented by the inclusion of auxiliary terminal boxes, allowing easy integration of monitoring devices and accessories without overcrowding the main connection area.

Reliability in demanding environments is further enhanced through comprehensive built-in protection systems.

“The MPX motors are supplied as standard with bearing and winding RTDs, offering accurate temperature monitoring and enabling early detection of potential issues.” Mr Cook said. “In addition, two sets of thermistors provide an extra layer of thermal protection, allowing operators to confidently manage motor performance under varying load conditions.”

Anti-condensation heaters are also included as standard, preventing moisture build-up during idle periods and reducing the risk of insulation failure – particularly important in pump installations exposed to changing environmental conditions.

As Mr Cook explained, durability is another defining characteristic of the MPX range.

“The motors are rated to IP66, ensuring a high level of protection against dust ingress and powerful water jets,” he said. “This makes them ideally suited to pumping applications in outdoor or washdown environments where exposure to water and contaminants is unavoidable.”

The external finish features a robust epoxy paint coating, providing long-term resistance to corrosion and extending the service life of the motor.

Mechanical design has also been carefully considered to maximise reliability. The MPX motors feature a cast iron cooling fan and fan cowl, providing superior durability and consistent cooling performance in demanding environments.

“When these features are combined, the result is a motor range that not only delivers high efficiency but also supports predictive maintenance through real-time condition monitoring,” Mr Cook said.

“Integrated bearing and winding RTDs, along with dual thermistors, provide continuous temperature data that can be fed into site monitoring or control systems, enabling operators to identify abnormal trends early and plan maintenance before failures occur.

“This reduces unplanned downtime and extends operational life.”

The MPX range is designed to provide dependable performance across a wide range of pumping applications – from water transfer and treatment through to industrial processing systems.
