Work has begun on the $1.35 million improvement package for a Touch of Paradise in Gracemere’s Cedric Archer Park, Rockhampton, with a tender now out for the irrigation component of the project.

Acting Rockhampton Mayor, Neil Fisher, said this work would elevate Touch of Paradise to a whole new level.

“Over the past couple of years we have transformed this little corner of Gracemere by reshaping the lagoon, installing new pathways, and building a new 43m pedestrian bridge,” Mr Fisher said.

“The works we are starting now will pull all of these improvements together by repairing old footpaths, installing new shade structures, replacing seats and benches, and planting thousands of new trees and shrubs which will enhance the existing canopy.

“A key element of this project will be installing a new irrigation system – there wasn’t one before so it was hard to keep some of the beautiful flora we have around here alive.

“The tender for this part of the project is out now, so have a look and see if it fits your business.

“Once the new system is in, the plants will be well looked after and available for everyone to enjoy.”

Parks Councillor, Cherie Rutherford, said that it was important to remind everyone of the stunning spaces that exist right across the region.

“Obviously, the Botanic and Kershaw Gardens in Rockhampton are well known and lovely spaces to spend time in,” Ms Rutherford said.

“However, we have absolutely wonderful parks right across our region, and Touch of Paradise is one of the most beautiful.

“When we are finished with these upgrades I’m sure it’s going to be a new family favourite not just for people in Gracemere but for our entire community.”

Divisional Councillor, Ellen Smith, said Council was making good on its commitment to transforming Cedric Archer Park into one of the best in the region.

“A few years ago Council made a commitment to transform Cedric Archer Park, and we’ve been working hard to turn that vision into a reality,” Ms Smith said.

“From the water play area to the new benches and shade structures, not to mention the brilliant Pump Track, we have turned this area of Gracemere into a drawcard.

“The work we are doing now will take Touch of Paradise from a pleasant area to a simply stunning one.”
