Jemena has reached a deal with Senex Energy for the acquisition of the Roma North Gas Processing Facility and pipeline in south-west Queensland for $50 million.

The acquisition will see Jemena own and operate the Roma North processing facility and pipeline to transport gas to the GLNG project.

The pipeline is capable of transporting up to 16TJ per day with a potential future expansion of up to 24TJ per day.

Jemena Executive General Manager, Gas Markets, Antoon Boey, said the acquisition reflects the company’s growing ambitions in the Surat and Bowen Basins.

“We have continued interest in Queensland, particularly in the south-west, where we believe there are great opportunities to partner with producers to bring new gas to market. The agreement will strengthen our interconnection and compression capabilities, close to the Wallumbilla Gas Hub, while also bringing new gas to market,” said Mr Boey.

“Jemena already owns substantial gas transmission assets in the area, including the Darling Downs Pipeline Network and the Queensland Gas Pipeline, and we welcome opportunities to better connect the Roma North processing facility and pipeline with these assets, particularly the Queensland Gas Pipeline.”

Jemena will work collaboratively with Senex Energy during the Roma North processing facility’s commissioning phase as part of an ongoing relationship with the Australian gas company.

Reflecting this relationship, Jemena was appointed by Senex Energy to build, own and operate the Atlas Gas Processing Plant and Pipeline in south-west Queensland in June 2018, with all gas from the project earmarked for the domestic market.

First gas on the Atlas project is scheduled to flow before the end of 2019, with Jemena recently achieving a number of key milestones in relation to the project including the appointment of a pipeline construction partner, Spiecapag Australia; the commencement of early civil works on site; and receipt of a Petroleum Facility Licence from the Queensland Government.

Jemena is investing $140 million in the Atlas project which is expected to create around 150 jobs in Queensland.

The Roma North Gas Processing Facility is currently being commissioned with an estimated operational date of early Q3 2019.
