Construction is now underway on the Mardi Water Treatment Plant, which is expected to deliver up to 160 million litres of drinking water to Central Coast locals once complete.
Built more than 40 years ago, the existing plant hasn’t been extensively upgraded since 1992 and has often struggled to keep up with demand when there are increased levels of organic material, sediment and algae in Mardi Dam.
The New South Wales Government contributed $6.85 million through its Safe and Secure Water Program, with the Central Coast Council contributing more than $75 million to bring the landmark development to fruition, expected to allow more water to be treated to a higher standard, regardless of the raw water quality in the dam.
Abergeldie Contractors won a competitive tender process in 2023 to deliver the project with construction expected to be completed in late 2025 – weather permitting.
