Milestone reached at GLNG WTP

A major milestone has been achieved within the water treatment facility at Santos GLNG’s largest hub site under construction in Fairview, QLD, with the desalination plant ready for commissioning.

“I’m pleased to report that our water desalination plant is ready to be handed over to our commissioning team for testing after the construction team completed works in December,” said Santos Vice President Queensland Trevor Brown.

“Once operational, water that has been extracted from underground coal seams will be purified at the 20-million-litre-per-day water treatment facility.

“Some of the purified water will be supplied to our potable water treatment plant feeding the administration offices on site, and some will be used for dust suppression and irrigation.

“Our CSG operations draw water from coal seams that are hundreds of metres below the aquifers that supply agriculture and towns.

“It has taken around 200,000 man-hours to get the water treatment facility at Fairview Hub 04 to this point, and this was achieved without any of our workers sustaining injuries that required time off.”

Trevor said the construction team’s next focus was to achieve mechanical completion for the hub’s seven electrical switchrooms and other utility systems.

Only three months ago the hub celebrated the commissioning of the associated water pond in the water treatment facility, and at around the same time the associated water amendment facility (AWAFIII) at Fairview Hub 05 was handed over.

Three hubs are under construction in the Roma and Fairview regions to compress extracted gas so it can be sent along a 420 kilometre pipeline to Curtis Island, Gladstone for liquefaction.
