Three FELUWA MULTISAFE pumps are on their way to Greece for a mineral processing application involving abrasive bauxite slurry at 33 bar.

The Metlen Energy & Metals mine, which has operated a set of FELUWA hose-diaphragm piston pumps since the 1990s, required process-reliable pumping of abrasive bauxite slurry into pressurised autoclaves. This involves high pressures, high solids content and chemically demanding conditions.

FELUWA stepped up with its MULTISAFE DGK 250 – 4 DS 230 pump to handle a flow rate of 350m3/h at 33 bar. These double hose-diaphragm pumps were chosen not only because they can handle abrasive and aggressive media, but because they can do so with reliability, wear resistance and process safety.

This is exactly where the double hose-diaphragm principle excels.

FELUWA MULTISAFE pumps are built specifically for abrasive slurry applications. Attributes include:

  • Reduced number of wear parts for high availability
  • Exceptional wear resistance of the few wetted components
  • Adaptability to demanding chemical environments
  • A wide range of materials for hose diaphragms and valves
  • Hermetic separation between drive end and pumped medium

Elsewhere, some MULTISAFE pumps have been operating for nearly 30 years in Australian mining operations. This includes Glencore’s Murrin Murrin nickel-cobalt mine in Western Australia.
