Pump upgrades at Leslie Dam will be carried out alongside the Toowoomba to Warwick pipeline project in south-east Queensland.
The 111km pipeline will be built in two stages, with stage one connecting a proposed reservoir in Highfields just north of Toowoomba to Greenmount, and stage two connecting Greenmount with a proposed reservoir in Warwick.
A separate pipeline is also being built between Ellinthorp and the Allora pump station as part of stage two, with the Logan Rd pump station a centrepiece of the stage two development.
Stage one is set to deliver improved water security to the growing communities of Nobby, Cambooya, Greenmount and Clifton, with stage one to provide drought contingency for Southern Downs communities.
A separate project as part of the Queensland Government’s Watertight Water Security Plan includes upgrades to surrounding water treatment plants and pump upgrades at Leslie Dam, increasing its usable water capacity to 1700 megalitres (ML).
State government also plans to build new weirs and boost the capacity of existing dams, while installing around 9500 smart meters to boost efficiencies and reduce water losses across the Southern Downs reticulated water network.
The construction contract is set to be awarded in mid-2026, with Seqwater – the utility overseeing the project – currently advancing approvals and planning.
It comes after the Queensland Government announced a new pump station for the rural town of Texas in late March, accompanying new infrastructure at the Texas sewage treatment plant, as well as a connecting pipeline.
