Greater Western Water has announced the completion of a new 4.7km water main in Melton.

About 450L of water will flow through the Melton water main every second, forming the primary supply for approximately 16,500 new homes and businesses and the further developments forecast through to 2029.

The main runs along Beattys Road and Taylors Road Fraser Rise, with connections to Melton Highway.

Greater Western Water said that additional works have also been completed to build a second connection into the Melbourne Water network, increasing reliability and reducing potential disruptions to further secure the water supply.

Greater Western Water’s Acting General Manager of Growth and Infrastructure, Bri George, said that the new main would supply areas like Rockbank and Plumpton.

“These are areas that are growing rapidly, so we’re investing in the sustainable water supply our communities need now and in the future.

“We thank locals for their patience as we’ve built this important asset. Let’s all raise a glass of tap water to its successful completion.”

The new main was constructed by Greater Western Water’s project partner Jaydo.
