New pump station a boon for expansion

Queensland Urban Utilities is preparing for growth in Rosewood by building a $3.5 million sewage pump station. 

The new pump station on Ipswich-Rosewood Rd will replace the existing one on School St, ensuring the community receives reliable sewerage services now and into the future. 

Queensland Urban Utilities CEO, Louise Dudley, said the local population is predicted to more than double within the next 10 to 15 years. 

“This investment will cater for growth in eastern Rosewood including the approved developments at Rosewood Green Estate and The Links Estate,” she said. 

“Sewage pump stations play a pivotal role in the wider sewerage network. 

“They mechanically lift sewage to a higher level to assist normal gravity-flow towards the sewage treatment plant.” 

Ipswich Councillor David Pahlke said the pump station will also help reduce sewer overflows during times of heavy rain. 

“Historically the lower end of Rosewood has suffered from wet weather overflows and the works will assist in alleviating that issue,” he said. 

The pump station, due to be completed by November, is part of a three year $5 million investment by Queensland Urban Utilities to upgrade Rosewood’s sewerage network. The contract for its construction was awarded by a competitive tender process to AWD Civil.

More than 400m of sewer pipes have been relined in Matthew St, Mill St and Basset Lane. 

Construction is underway on a new 1.1km sewer main along Ipswich-Rosewood Rd to the Rosewood sewage treatment plant and new sewer mains will also be built in O’Shea and Railway Streets.
