Forrest’s new water treatment plant is helping to improve water quality and water security in the area.
Barwon Water is optimising processes at the new $8.75 million plant to respond to any changes in water quality, backed by frequent testing throughout the Forrest network.
The plant on Grant Street features the latest technology, increased capacity and improved operational efficiency.
The original water treatment plant, which was reaching the end of its operational life, has since been decommissioned.
Barwon Water Managing Director, Shaun Cumming, said the upgrade delivered on a commitment to customers.
“The project paves the way for us to deliver long-term water quality, security, and affordability for local customers.
“The upgrade ensures we can meet the rising demand and maintain high service standards for the Forrest community.”
Construction of the new state-of-the-art facility began in July 2023, with the full project completed in early July 2024.
Mr Cumming thanked the Forrest community for their understanding and patience during the construction period.
Barwon Water is pursuing several other Forrest projects, aligning with its 2023-2028 action plan.
This includes developing a concept design and business case for a wastewater management solution and the second stage of the East Barwon willow removal and restoration project.
