The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has announced the completion of construction works for the new pumping station and box culvert drains in Bacia Norte do Patane, Macau. The project has now entered its final phase of inspections, adjustments, and trials ahead of full operation.
The facilities are designed to reduce the impact of heavy rainfall on the districts of Fai Chi Kei, Lam Mau, San Kio, and Horta e Costa. Once operational, IAM expects the system to significantly alleviate localised flooding and improve overall drainage resilience.
The project is divided into three main sections:
- The new pumping station in Bacia Norte do Patane.
- A 170-metre box culvert drain constructed along the waterfront of Rua do Comandante João Belo.
- A 268-metre box culvert drain built along a section of Rua da Doca Seca.
These new structures connect to the existing culvert in Avenida Marginal do Lam Mau, creating an integrated system that collects rainwater during storms and discharges it to the sea via the pumping station. In addition to managing stormwater volumes, the pumping station is equipped with dirt interception features to reduce waterfront pollution.
The project also delivered community amenities, including a new 2,200-square-metre leisure area at the waterfront. The space features fitness facilities, a children’s play area, and a viewing platform, and is integrated with the existing Baía Norte do Fai Chi Kei leisure zone to enhance the area’s public environment.
IAM noted that while the new pumping station and culvert are complete, surrounding works continue. The bureau has advised the public to follow safety signage and traffic directions in the vicinity of Bacia Norte do Patane.
