Victorian Minister for Water Peter Walsh and Member for Carrum MP Donna Bauer have announced the completion of a project to reduce odour and noise at a sewage pump station in Bonbeach.

Mr Walsh said Melbourne Water’s Bondi Road sewerage pumping station upgrade includes a new air treatment facility and state of the art mechanical and electrical equipment.

“The project also included aesthetic works on and around the building to improve amenity for the local community, including landscaping and a raingarden.”

Mr Walsh will be inspecting a number of water infrastructure project sites around Kingston as part of the Victorian Government’s Community Cabinet event.

Ms Bauer said improving the neighbourhood around the pump station was the main driver for the upgrade.

“There has been a pump station at this site since the mid-1960s and before this work the noise and odour had caused genuine concern for the local community,” Ms Bauer said.

“Bondi Road now has a much more modern building housing new equipment that means quieter operation and odour reduction.

“Local residents also helped out by providing their feedback into the finishing touches on this project.

“The result is a building that is much more aesthetically pleasing that better fits with the natural landscape of the area,” she added.

Minor works to close out the project will be completed early next year.

As part of the Community Cabinet visit to the City of Kingston, Mr Walsh and Ms Bauer will also inspect progress of the jetty replacement program at Patterson Lakes’ Tidal Waterways area.
