NSW Minister for Finance and Services Greg Pearce says a major contract has been finalised to provide essential water services to up to 12,000 new homes in Sydney’s North West.

Mr Pearce said Sydney Water has awarded the contract to Abigroup Contractors Pty Ltd to build infrastructure that will connect residents to water and wastewater networks by 2015.

“This contract is part of $100 million being spent by Sydney Water to bring services to the region over the next few years and is evidence of the Government’s investment to speed up much needed housing supply in Sydney,” he said.

“Construction is set to start in early 2013 for services to Riverstone and North Kellyville in the first release precincts and partial servicing of Box Hill and Schofields in the second release precincts.

”The work includes construction of the $37 million First Ponds Creek and Cattai Creek pipeline at Riverstone and North Kellyville, one of the first projects to be delivered under the Housing Acceleration Fund,” Mr Pearce said.

The second release precincts will accommodate around 13,000 new homes and at least 120 hectares of industrial land.

“Part of these precincts will be serviced to enable up to 1,500 homes in southern Box Hill, 1,500 homes in Riverstone and 2,000 homes in the northern portion of Schofields to connect to water and wastewater systems,” Mr Pearce said.

“Originally planned for 2018-20, Sydney Water now expects construction could be finished by the end of 2014 with the help of the Housing Acceleration Fund initiated by the Government.”

“I would like to congratulate Abigroup Contractors Pty Ltd on its successful tender and Sydney Water for keeping with the Government’s commitment to accelerate services in this growth region.”
