Coliban Water has called for the first two of four major contracts this month as it moves into the tendering phase for the Harcourt Rural Modernisation Project – including teh supply of pump and motor sets.

Managing Director Jeff Rigby said the construction tender process will be done in stages for different components of the project works.

“This is an exciting step for us, and our customers in the Harcourt area, as we advance the project to construction of the new piped system.

“This month we have called tenders for the supply of pumps and motor sets to be installed in the new pump stations, and the supply of 19 kilometres of pipe and fittings.

“The remaining contracts to be tendered will be for the design and construction of the two megalitre balancing tank and the construction of the pipeline and pump stations.

“We anticipate calling for these over July and August with the aim to commence construction on site in January 2014,” Mr Rigby said.

Last month the Essential Services Commission (ESC) included the Harcourt project in its final decision on Water Plan 2013 – 2018.

“When the ESC released their draft decision earlier this year, they requested additional information to support inclusion of the Harcourt project in our five year pricing proposals and capital investment program.

“This information was submitted and the ESC supported inclusion of the project in its final decision handed down last month.

“We had already committed to deliver this project, and we acknowledge the ESC’s support for the project as part of our new five year Water Plan period,” Mr Rigby said.

The Harcourt Rural Modernisation Project will replace 65 kilometres of concrete and earthen channel with a fully pressurised 365 day a year piped water supply – providing greater water reliability to the Harcourt agricultural area.
