FELUWA has not only developed some of the largest double hose-diaphragm pumps in the world, but also the longest standing.
Some FELUWA pumps continue to operate more than 25 years after being installed, including at Glencore’s Murrin Murrin nickel-cobalt mine in Western Australia.
A FELUWA pump operated at BHP Nickel West’s Kwinana nickel refinery for more than 25 years up until its shutdown in July 2024, while Origin Energy continues to operate a FELUWA pump at the Eraring power station more than 15 years after it was first installed.
These are a few of many installations globally where FELUWA’s hose-diaphragm pumps have proven their longevity.
In 2012, FELUWA designed and built the largest double hose-diaphragm pump in the world, the FELUWA MULTISAFE QGK 500 – 5 DS 350 Quintuplex. This pump type was individually configured to meet the project’s specific requirements: to handle a large flow rate of 750m³/h at 45 bar.
FELUWA’s client, BOLEO Mexico, ordered four of these pump models. Due to their enormous size and weight of approximately 150 tonnes per unit, the implementation required not only engineering precision but also extensive logistical and infrastructural measures – including the construction of a new assembly hall.
Since entering service in 2014, the pumps have reliably handled abrasive tailings from copper and cobalt mining operations. Even today, more than 11 years later, all four pumps are still in continuous operation, moving large volumes of tailings from thickener tanks to disposal.
During a recent maintenance visit in June 2025, FELUWA personally inquired about the current operating status and the client’s satisfaction with the pumps and FELUWA’s service.
The result: 100 per cent positive feedback. Following a challenging testing phase, all four pumps have been operating smoothly and without interruption since commissioning.
This project perfectly reflects FELUWA’s philosophy: extreme demands call for dependable technology, expertise, and genuine collaboration.
