SA Water has successfully completed the installation of around 1,500m of water main along Waterport Road in Port Elliot. This will increase the capacity of the water network and provide greater security in the event of a pipe leak or break.
The road has now fully reopened, following the removal of traffic management during the works for the safety of the community and crews.
SA Water’s General Manager of Sustainable Infrastructure, Amanda Lewry, said this essential infrastructure upgrade is part of the utility’s ongoing commitment to supporting future growth and providing a reliable water supply for homes and businesses.
“The project was delivered on schedule, which is a fantastic outcome for the community, as reopening this important thoroughfare was a priority,” Ms Lewry said.
“We maintained regular communication with the local councils, other stakeholders and the broader community, with their feedback enabling us to make adjustments where practicable, such as refining our traffic management plan to minimise construction impacts. We recognise that projects of this scale can be disruptive, and we appreciate the local community’s patience and understanding over the past few months.”
Contributions from local businesses were also crucial in successfully delivering this project, with key partners including Fleurieu Septic Pumping for effluent waste management and Mount Compass Sand and Loam for sand supply.
“Additionally, Coastal Waste Bins provided skip bins, Adbri supplied concrete, ShedEx offered professional consultation, and 5 Star Coastal Cleaning ensured the site remained clean throughout the project,” Ms Lewry said.
“This collaboration enhanced project efficiency and reinforces our commitment to supporting the local community.”
Business Victor Harbor Chair Gavin Daniell said SA Water’s leadership in the Waterport Road upgrade has been exemplary and demonstrates a strong commitment to involving local businesses and supporting the local economy.
