Wastewater network upgrade begins in Gawler (SA)

SA Water has commenced work on expanding the capacity of the wastewater network in the Gawler area to cater for the region’s future growth and development.

The $7.33 million project includes 2.8 kilometres of new pipeline and upgrades to two existing below-ground pump stations.

SA Water General Manager Commercial & Business Development, Mark Gobbie, says the project will ensure Gawler’s wastewater system meets future demand.

“The expansion of the Gawler area means the existing network is nearing capacity,” Mark says.

“This project will enable the local wastewater system to adequately support future development potential in Gawler and surrounding suburbs.”

A wastewater pump station adjacent to the North Para River Bridge and a wastewater pump station adjacent to the Gawler Oval complex will both be upgraded as part of the project, which is expected to be completed in December 2014.

“SA Water and South Australian contractor BJ Jarrad are working closely with local residents, businesses and community groups to keep everyone informed of scheduled traffic changes and road works during the upgrade,” Mark says.

“We are consulting the Town of Gawler and other key stakeholders while also striving to minimise the construction’s impact on the community.”
