City West Water will commence essential water main renewal works in Yarraville (VIC).
The works will be completed in sections to minimise disruption to motorists and traders, will run from the railway crossing to Ballarat Street and are expected to take five weeks.
City West Water Managing Director Anne Barker said the replacement of the water main on both sides of the street is part of an ongoing program to replace ageing water mains in Melbourne.
The water main along Anderson Street was built in 1926 has had a recent history of leaks and water supply interruptions to traders and residents, Ms Barker said.
The new water main will provide a consistent, reliable source of water to local businesses and residents without the inconvenience caused by ongoing repairs.
Ms Barker said City West Water fully understands the importance of this iconic shopping strip in Yarraville and every effort has been made to ensure disruption is kept to an absolute minimum.
The works will cause some disruption, and we are confident the community will be accommodating as we undertake these essential water main renewals.
Upon completion of the works, Maribyrnong City Council will be resurfacing the road surface.
