Work is underway on the Werribee Irrigation District Modernisation Project. A new regulator is being built inside Southern Rural Water’s irrigation channel at Tarneit Street.
The new regulator is a critical component of Stage 5 of the Werribee Irrigation District Modernisation Project. This work is being undertaken concurrently with pipeline and customer outlet automation works, which started in May and June, respectively.
Over 8.3km of new pipeline will be installed, and 70 customer outlets will be automated by the end of 2024.
Program Lead Werribee Irrigation District Modernisation, Belal Chundoo, said these works were necessary for the region’s farming future.
“A regulator is a structure that holds and measures water in a channel, and the new regulator at Tarneit Street will improve the delivery of irrigation water downstream to farmers in Werribee South,” he said.
Construction is within Southern Rural Water’s existing easement and is expected to be complete by October 2024.
