Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) is inviting customers to help develop a strategy for the future of pumped irrigation services in the Nyah, Tresco, and Woorinen districts.

Nyah and Tresco’s irrigation systems are both over 100 years old. In the 1960s and 1970s, the original channel systems were replaced with low-pressure pipelines. Woorinen is the most recently modified of the three pumped irrigation districts, updated in the 1990s / early 2000s.

The water corporation delivers water to pumped irrigation customers year-round through its piped network.

GMW Strategy and Services Planning general manager Steven Abbott said multiple factors had prompted the review of the service.

“Land and water usage in the pumped irrigation districts has changed over the years and there are challenges associated with aging infrastructure in these regions,” he said.

“We want to engage with customers from our pumped irrigation areas to learn more about their priorities and water delivery needs in the future.

“This will help us develop a Pumped Irrigation Districts Future Service Strategy, which will plan for how each district is likely to progress over the next five to 30 years, as well as the infrastructure and service requirements for these future scenarios.”

Customers will have the opportunity to engage with GMW through one-on-one conversations, broader community information sessions, and drop-in sessions.

GMW will also undertake an engineering analysis of future infrastructure requirements for these services.

Customers can learn more about the Future Service Strategy and select how they would prefer to stay up to date on future engagement opportunities on GMW’s YourSay website: yoursay.gmwater.com.au/pumped-irrigation-FSS

GMW will also be out and about in the region over the coming months, offering customers the opportunity to chat and share their thoughts. More details on these opportunities will be sent to customers via text message and email and advertised in newspapers, on the above website, and on social media.

Customers wishing to share their thoughts on the future of the Pumped Irrigation Districts can also phone GMW on 1800 013 357 or email yoursay@gmwater.com.au
