In Australia’s wastewater sector, operational efficiency and maintenance simplicity are more critical than ever. With rising costs, aging infrastructure, and increasing environmental scrutiny, utilities are under pressure to do more with less. At SEEPEX Australia, we believe that innovation in pump technology is one of the most effective ways to meet these challenges head-on.

That’s why our Smart Conveying Technology (SCT) continues to set the benchmark for progressive cavity pump performance and maintainability.

“SCT was developed with one goal in mind: to make pump maintenance faster, safer, and more cost-effective,” says Peter Vila, Managing Director of SEEPEX Australia. “And it’s delivering exactly that for wastewater operators across the country.”

Unlike conventional progressive cavity pumps, SCT features a modular design with a two-piece stator and rotor. This allows maintenance to be performed in place, without removing suction or discharge pipework, and without special tools. A single technician can complete most service tasks in under an hour, resulting in up to an 85 per cent reduction in downtime.

“We’ve seen utilities cut their wastewater maintenance intervals from every six weeks to once a year,” Vila explains. “That’s not just a technical improvement. It’s a transformation in how plants manage their resources.”

The integrated re-tensioning device is another standout feature. As wear occurs, operators can simply adjust the stator clamping to restore performance, extending the life of both rotor and stator by up to 200 per cent. This reduces spare parts consumption and lowers the total cost of ownership.

International case studies back this up. At Yorkshire Water’s Harrogate WwTW, SCT pumps extended service intervals eightfold. At United Utilities’ unmanned site in Tarvin, SCT reduced callouts from weekly to just one in two years, saving AUD 3,780 per month in maintenance costs and achieving ROI in just three months.

“These are real-world results,” Vila emphasises. “And they’re replicable here in Australia.”

SCT also addresses one of the most persistent issues in sludge handling: ragging. The segmented stator design and optional Smart Seal Housing allow for quick access to the mechanical seal and drive-side joint, enabling rapid blockage clearance without damaging critical components.

“We’ve engineered SCT to be technician-friendly,” says Vila. “It’s about empowering operators with tools that work for them, not against them.”

For procurement teams, the value proposition is clear: reduced downtime, lower spare parts inventory, and a faster return on investment. For technicians, it means safer, simpler, and more efficient maintenance.

“At SEEPEX, we’re not just selling pumps. We’re delivering smarter solutions for the future of wastewater,” Vila concludes.
