The Greater Shepparton City Council, in Victoria’s north, has announced construction of the new Yakka Basin – including a new pump station – is set to commence on 9 March 2020.
The works, estimated at approximately $1.2 million, include construction of a retardation basin, pump station, access tracks and fencing.
The council said the works will benefit the residential development of Pines Estate through appropriate drainage, stormwater treatment and landscaping.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure, Phil Hoare, said the works were necessary to increase stormwater runoff as the area grows.
“Council is undertaking these works to support increases in stormwater runoff as residential areas continue to expand in the northern area of Greater Shepparton,” Mr Hoare said.
“The Yakka Basin is expected to take approximately four months to construct, with completion projected for the end of June.
“Council looks forward to the cooperation and patience of traders and residents in the area during the works.”
