A chopper pump is a type of centrifugal pump equipped with a chopping or maceration component to break up solids present in the pumped fluid, thus preventing clogging. These solids may be mud, sewage, silt, slurry, sand, rubbish or other debris. Chopper pumps come in either submersible or dry operating designs. Chopper pumps are frequently utilised in the sewage treatment, agricultural, food processing, mining, petrochemical, waste processing, and pulp and paper industries.
