A joint venture between AJ Lucas Group and Spiecapag Australia has been awarded a significant contract to construct APA Group’s Eastern Goldfields Gas Pipeline in Western Australia.

The contract, which is part of APA’s $140 million Goldfields Gas Pipeline expansion, will be undertaken by Spiecapag Lucas. Spiecapag Lucas is a joint venture between Lucas Engineering & Construction Pty Limited and Spiecapag Australia Pty Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the international pipeline and facilities specialist contractor, Spiecapag S.A.

Spiecapag Lucas’s will provide trench excavation, pipe welding, pipe placement and lay-in, surface protection, and remediation of the right of way.

Construction of the 293km gas transmission pipeline, and associated infrastructure, will continue APA’s Murrin Murrin lateral pipeline (situated approximately 45km east of Leonora, in the north eastern Goldfields of WA) to gaspipelineAngloGold Ashanti’s Sunrise Dam and Tropicana gold mines. The pipeline will be used for the purpose of fuelling gas fired power generation facilities at both mine sites.

A new project office will be established in Perth during November, and the commencement of machinery mobilisation will occur in January 2015. Construction of the pipeline is expected to commence in March 2015, with practical completion scheduled for November 2015.

Russell Eggers, managing director and chief executive of AJ Lucas, said:

“This work for APA is a key contract for AJ Lucas and further extends our long term relationship of delivering their gas pipelines.”

“This contract win is a result of our industry-leading experience, good safety record and strong client focus. It also extends our already established strategic partnership with Spiecapag Australia, which has been in place for more than 20 years.”

“AJ Lucas continues to tender for a number of significant contracts and is strengthening its position for the future.”
