The Western Australian State Government will soon begin work to refurbish wastewater pipes in Victoria Park, which is expected to extend the life of this vital infrastructure by at least 50 years.

Water Minister, Mia Davies, said the $4.93 million Water Corporation project formed part of an ongoing program of work to reline and refurbish wastewater pipes across the State.

“About four kilometres of wastewater pipe in Victoria Park will be refurbished over the coming year,” Ms Davies said.

“Water Corporation uses trenchless technology to reline wastewater pipes where possible. Trenchless technology avoids widespread excavation to access the wastewater pipes, which minimises disruption to the community and road users.

“The process involves inserting a liner inside an existing pipe via an access chamber, resulting in a replacement pipe with a smooth and continuous inner surface. This work will reduce the likelihood of blockages and overflows.”

The Minister said the corporation would work closely with residents throughout the duration of the project.

“Residents in the area will notice an increase in activity along the pipeline route and some local traffic management, however the corporation will ensure disruption is kept to a minimum,” she said.

“I thank residents in advance for their co-operation throughout the work, which is expected to take about 10 months to complete.”
