Upgrades are continuing on the sewerage network in Victor Harbour, South Australia, with SA Water now beginning a new phase of the expansion project.
The first stage of works commenced in early 2016 with the installation of a pump station to support the new Fleurieu Regional Aquatic and Health Centre, which is due to open in early 2017.
SA Water’s Senior Manager of Stakeholder Engagement, Matthew Bonnett, said works were now focusing on the installation of approximately six kilometres of underground mains and associated pump stations.
“This new infrastructure will connect to the existing network and will help cater for a growing local population and support new community and residential developments proposed for the town,” said Mr Bonnett.
“The current network services more than 10,000 people in the Victor Harbor area, which can double during peak tourist periods.
“This network upgrade will also help improve the reliability and environmental performance of sewerage services in the area.”
During the current stage of works, there will be temporary traffic restrictions on several Victor Harbor roads, including Ocean, Strawberry Hill, Adelaide, Welch, Armstrong and Henderson Road.
“SA Water and our contractors are committed to keeping construction impacts to a minimum and there will be no interruptions to local sewerage services during this time,” said Mr Bonnett.
Wet weather has delayed some works, but the overall project is expected to be complete by mid-2017.
