Mount Gibson Iron are installing a new 560 kW dewatering pump pontoon in their Koolan Island open pit for dewatering. Petro Min Engineers are responsible for the electrical and controls design for the pump power supply, pump starters, detailed design and the telemetry system.
The starter uses a 1000 Volt Solcon Soft Starter from Sundrive and Miri RTU’s for the telemetry system.
The Koolan Island hematite mining operation is located approximately 140 kilometres north of Derby in Yampi Sound, off the northern Kimberley coast of Western Australia. Almost 70-million tonnes of high-grade (Fe @ 67{87a03eb4327cd2ba79570dbcca4066c6d479b8f7279bafdb318e7183d82771cf}) iron ore were mined by BHP from Koolan Island from 1959 to 1993.
