Urban Utilities has announced that construction is now complete on an 8km pipe connecting Plainland to the Laidley Wastewater Treatment Plant.
It signals a major milestone in Urban Utilities’ $32 million project to upgrade essential wastewater infrastructure in the Lockyer Valley.
Urban Utilities spokesperson Michelle Cull said the project would cater for projected growth in the area through to 2040.
“We know more and more people are choosing to call the Lockyer Valley home,” Ms Cull said.
“It’s important we upgrade our existing network and build new infrastructure for the future so we can continue to provide safe and reliable water and wastewater services to our customers.”
The project also involves constructing a new wastewater pump station at Plainland.
It will replace Urban Utilities’ existing tankering facility on Gehrke Road and is due for completion in 2023, weather and site conditions permitting.
Ms Cull said Urban Utilities and its delivery partner, John Holland, thanked residents for their ongoing patience.
“As this project continues we will maintain our efforts to minimise any potential customer impacts,” Ms Cull said.
“We remind everyone to be aware there will be some changed traffic conditions while we complete these essential works for the Plainland community.”
