Two infill sewerage projects in South Bunbury (WA) are now complete, allowing 432 residential lots to connect to the central wastewater system.
WA Water Minister Mia Davies said that over the past three years, the Water Corporation had invested $11.2 million to complete two infill sewerage projects in Bunbury. The works were completed as part of the State Government’s Infill Sewerage Program.
“The completion of these infill sewerage projects is great news for local residents, as it provides both social and environmental benefits for the community,” Ms Davies said.
“Wastewater from these lots can now be carried direct through a system of buried pipes and pump stations, to a central treatment plant for safe processing and disposal.
“I would like to acknowledge the co-operation of the local community during construction of these important projects in South Bunbury.”
The Minister said the State Government had recently announced a $50 million extension to the Infill Sewerage Program, which would include a project in Bunbury.
“The next stage of infill sewerage in Bunbury will enable 156 residential lots bounded by Ocean Drive, Sunningdale Street, Joel Crescent and Mangles Street, to connect to the central wastewater system,” she said.
“The Water Corporation plans to begin construction in 2016 and will liaise closely with the community in the lead up to the start of work.”
The Infill Sewerage Program had enabled more than 93,000 households in Western Australia access to the central wastewater system, reducing leach drain run-off to the environment.
