Sewer main, pump station under construction on Central Coast

Construction has commenced on essential water and sewer infrastructure works in the Gosford CBD, Central Coast Council has announced, to help cater to the growing needs of the city.

Council said its Water and Sewer department is working with contractors to complete an extensive works program to ensure that its water and sewer infrastructure is reliable now and in the future.

Works to be completed include the installation of a new sewer rising main within the Gosford, East Gosford and Point Frederick areas and a new sewer pump station along the waterfront on Dane Dr.

Central Coast Council Director for Water and Sewer, Jamie Loader, said construction had already commenced, with the sewer rising main due for completion mid-2024 and the sewer pump station to be complete early in 2025.

“Shortland Ave, Gosford, will be closed to traffic, with an expected reopening in late April,” Mr Loader said.

“In addition, Gertrude Ave, Gosford, will be reduced to one lane and have limited street parking during February and March.

“Later in the project, works will be undertaken along Henry Parry Dr, Gosford, and Frederick St, Point Fredrick, with traffic management in place.

“Contractors will be working across a number of work sites at any given time during the course of this project.

“I encourage our community to allow extra travel time when travelling through Gosford during this stage of the project and thank them for their patience while we get these essential works finished,” Mr Loader said.

Most activity will be carried out between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday with occasional Saturday work between 8am and 1pm.

The community will be notified if weekend work is required outside of these hours.

Council Administrator Rik Hart said the works were essential to ensure Gosford kept pace with expected growth.

“The project will provide a reliable sewer service to the Gosford CBD to meet the demands of new developments and deliver the vision of Gosford as the capital of the Central Coast,” Mr Hart said.

The projects have been made possible thanks to $42.5 million in funding through the New South Wales Government’s Housing Acceleration Fund and a further $4.6 million through the Accelerated Infrastructure Fund.
